Show Pics! Part 1

This past weekends SoCo show was entirely too much fun! Everybody in charge of the show: Susan~Wendy~Chet~Michelle went above and beyond to make this quite THE event!
It's hard to believe that they whipped this all together in 2 1/2 months.
When I decided to get a booth I got excited about what I was going to put together to sell!
I had alot of great finds from out of state that I had set aside and it was awesome watching them all come together!
The theme for my booth was "Were You Born in a Barn?!"
I have been dying to use some hay and while it can be messy it sure does add to feel of a booth. I have seen too many outta this world pictures of Barn House events that had inspired me to want go this route.
So here ya go.
I present to you the
Olde Tyme Marketplace
"Were You Born in a Barn Booth"
at the Southern Comforts
Fall & Antique Show 2010!
Enjoy!
Old mail bags....last minute garage sale find! Can you believe that? 12 of um!
The doors. Oh the doors! I didn't have these suckers until I got to the show to set up. I didn't even know they existed til then. Chet comes up to me to tell me that they have a bunch of doors they think I might like. With numbers on them.
Spaz attcak ensued and I bought up 9 of um and as Mr. OTM was going to put them in the truck I holla~ "WAIT!!!! Design intervention just hit me and I decided we are going to use these as the backdrop for the booth!!"
White chippy paint flakes were everywhere!!
Didn't care.
THEY LOOKED FABULOUS and I am in love with them and we will never part. Ever.

More numbers and hay...

This is an old cadet cot from Virginia Military Institute (VMI) in Lexington Va. ( says so on the bottom). THE perfect thing for a porch. Flop on some old pillows and you have the best spot in the house to take a little nippy nap.

None of this stuff is screwed together, nailed up or supported in anyway! Good grief! It is all just leanin together but is was so solid I forgot to even worry about it. Sometimes my booth and shop for that matter can be one giant boobie trap.
What exactly is a boobie trap? Who thought of that word? Where did it even come from?
Anyway.......

This big old white box is actually an old produce crate! We just tipped her over and used it as a table type shadowbox type display. Worked for me!

The garden cart is one of my best favorites . It has THAT LOOK and on a scale of 1 to 10 the chippitude factor is a 9!
Cream color ladder didn't last long. I probably should have kept it because I am already jonesing for another one. Couldn't do a show with SOMETHING to do with a feedsack..............

The topiaries were METAL....

Antique chippy mirror on my fav door........
Framed sugar sack...
Old vintage handmade Polk Tourist Home Sign......too die for!

Rusty metal gears.........More Hay.....

Old rusty crusty hanging planter basket filled with goodies...

Plenty of old ticking pillows filled with feathers! That little round frame was also one of my fav things. Chippitude factor = 8

Gotta have some birdies.....

Had never seen these kind before.....

So there you go friends! I have lots more to share with you of my fellow vendors and as soon as I upload all those pics I will get um on here so you can drool over all their stuff!
See ya later!

OH~ OH~ Wait a minute!! Hold on!! For even more pics hop on over to my friend Tammy's blog Junk Wild!
Now I'm done.

UNEXPECTED FINDS!

Today was just a great day! I got to go over to one of my clients homes today and start the fun aspect of decorating......the accessories!!!

We had a great time! That is one part of my job that I just LOVE doing. We have waited for this day for awhile. We needed to get all the furniture selected and ordered and patiently wait for it to come in so we could get started on the accessorizing. I will be taking pictures ~ trust me I am too excited about how it is turning out to not share it with you!

On the way home I decided to take a little detour and do some snooping around in a few of our downtown shops. I was SOOO EXCITED at what I found!

Here's a hint...they're FAKE and HUGE and I got a PAIR!

WHOA...IT'S NOT WHAT YOU'RE THINKING!

It's these pumpkins!

I am talking about two feet across each and about 12 inches tall! I LOVE UM!

The color is AWESOME! And they were CHEAP! My favorite 5 letter word!!

Also on the way home I was lucky enough to spot these beauties ....

gracing the CURB!!! Curbside castoffs ARE THE BEST!

FREE!! My favorite 4 letter word! LOVE the color and size!

These will be for sale at the SoCo show THIS WEEKEND!!

I love days like this...I get to go to work doing what I love and then on my way home I get a surprise TREAT! The perfect ending to a perfect day!

Just tinkering.....

I was tinkering out in the garage last night when I got home from the shop. It seems that when I am at the shop I can't wait to get home to work on the projects there and then when I am at home I can't wait to get to the shop and work on what waits for me there! This is a busy time of year for sure!I am having a great time getting all my stuff together for the shows that lie ahead.
The Southern Comforts show is new and this is the first time I have done an antiques show in awhile and my creative juices are flowing like crazy! Alot of my Ohio finds will be at this show~ I have saved some killer chippy pieces to use there. In addition to that show I am also going to be selling at the HOLIDAY MARKET in Greensboro NC for the first time. I am excited to do these new venues and to see what happens. I normally do the Southern Christmas show but that event lasts two weeks and I can no longer be away from the shop that long.
Anyway...while I was tinkering I glanced over to this charming little display on the workbench done by none other than MR. OTM! I am so PROUD! Here is how the master decorator describes putting the look together:
"Um...well I had to sand those wood boards and I didn't think you'd want your mini pumpkins getting all dusty so I stuck um under that big glass thing...that little metal number plaque fell on the floor about three times and it was beginning to tick me off so I just stuck it there!"
I know...I know....AMAZING right?? He has such vision! And the expert placement and the Krylon can in the background is subtle yet bold! LOL!
I love all the dust on TOP of the big glass thing...makes the pic truly gritty.
Hopefully you can get out to your space and tinker away the day!
Have a good one!
P.S. This look will be for sale at the SoCo Show...who knows Mr.OTM might even be there to offer even more design tips! See ya!

Fall Afternoon.....

It was well deserved ~ the absolutely beautiful Fall day we had here today in NC.
The high was 71 degree and yes, as I type this I am wearing a SWEATSHIRT!!
YIPPEE!! I have been waiting like over 100 days to say that!
Mr. OTM had a great idea today. Since I am getting ready to participate in my first antique in quite awhile, he suggested that I practice my booth set up! He measured out my space for me in the side yard and lightly spray painted the outline so I could set up within the space.
All the stuff really inspired me so I decided to take some pics and let you get a sneak peek at some of the goodies that I am going to be taking to the show!
I got my hands on some REAL bittersweet this year and LOVED how it looked with everything
Picked up this old ice cream maker this morning! Don't you just love the color of the bucket?

Yep, I know what you're thinking~ it's exactly what I thought when I laid eyes on this door...

oh~my~goodness...

I actually fell under the charm of this old cadet cot and decided to plop down and lay there, right in the yard and look at the tree tops and think about all the other stuff I should be doing. The stack of old feather pillows was so comfy and the breeze could have literally drifted me off to sleep. I want to take my bed outside from now on and just pretend that there isn't anything out there that could ruin my fantasy~like mosquitos!

LOVE the old ticking fabric..

yet another door that is seriously too die for~not kidding~ I may not even sell it~ I am having separation anxiety over this one..

Okay...I need to figure out how I can have bittersweet grow here at my house 365 days a year...I never want to be without it...

YES...It's a flower cart! And yes I will show more pics and YES I am having trouble even thinking about selling it! This one is 911 serious! I can't bear the thought of letting it go. I have two weeks to think about it and then the show! Oh what to do???!! HELP! This is an antique emergency ~like my friend Joey would say ! I don't know what I am gonna do! I'll put like 1000.00 on it and see what happens! LOL!

This little cupboard is so simple yet it has this awesome handle! You gotta love it.
Well this ace photographer is pooped out and ready to hit the hay.
I really don't ever know what I am doing when I take pictures but I liked these today! It was all in the bittersweet...it made everything just POP as the pros would say!
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed your visit!

HOW I MADE OVER SOME FREEBIE CHAIRS WITH OLD CEMENT SACKS!

Well today I finally got around to a project that screamed my name at me everytime I walked through the garage.
I was given these fantastic old chairs that have certainly seen better days. I love the shape and patina of the wood and since I know DIDLY SQUAT about chair caning I came up with something else for the seats.
Want to know how I did it?? Take a peek....Here is all you need for the project:
the chairs
foam
material (this is where the cement sacks come in)
screw gun
screws
scissors (good ones that you use for material ONLY~ not the ones that you've tried to cut wire and maybe a prune your bushes with....material scissors ONLY! :0) )
marker
staple gun and staples
crappy scissors
plywood
jig saw
I started off by cutting off all the extra caning left on the seat...for this you can use your crappy scissors...not your material ones! I am just trying to help ya out here!! Trust me...been there...done that! GUILTY!
After that you need to measure the seat opening and draw a circle on the plywood and cut it out with your jig. Next take the wood circle and lay it on the foam and trace it with the marker and cut it out. Next you will need to place your material on the foam and situate it the way you want it to lay~ center it up and cut your material.

Here is what your three circles will look like

Next start stapling. I like to secure four sides then finish up around the shape....

Here is what you will have when you are done with all the staples

And then flip it over and VOILA~ two new padded seats for your chairs!

Time to screw them into the base of the chair. I used four screws one on each side to make it nice and tight.

And here you go!! The finished pair of freebie chairs!!

This whole project took about an hour from start to finish not counting an apple crisp break in there and losing the screw gun.
I love the results and how easy it was to do.
These will be for sale at an upcoming show I will be exhibiting at:
SOUTHERN COMFORTS FALL & ANTIQUE SHOW at the
Rowan County Fairgrounds in Salisbury NC!
I haven't done an antique show in awhile and I am getting geared up! I have some great stuff stashed away for this show! It will be a fun weekend for sure~ Oct. 17 & 18
More to come on that!
Hope you enjoyed the make over and feel inspired to tackle a project that has been screamin at ya for awhile now! :0)
For the first time I am going to link this to Debra's Vintage Inspiration Friday!
Hop on over there for some divine inspiration!!
