Birthday junk finds!

Today started off with having to call the cops. On my birthday non the less!! HAHA! Are you curious yet?
Well, we decided to go to Mc Donalds to grab breakfast (mostly because I wanted a Pumpkin Spice Latte Mocha Cappuchino fancy schmancy big girl coffee drink because I really don't like coffee but when it's filled with mostly cream then I'm good!) Soooooo, as we proceed to get back into the truck.....BAM! Reality hits us in the face with the fact that the keys are locked inside the truck. So Mr. OTM had to call the cops to get us back in business. I sat on the tailgate and sipped my uber fancy kind of coffee feeling very trendy and answering "yes" to everyone who asked" lock your keys in the truck?"  It didn't bother me one bit because it was , after all , my birthday and we were going junk hunting as soon as this little mess was taken care of.
Once we were on the road again, I realized that I wished I would have just downed this coffee thing because it was a nuisance trying to keep it from spilling onto my new hoodie (birthday present from hubs!) Anyway, I managed to only get one teeny tiny spot on the front of me. I consider that a success!!!
Once we got to the flea market I was ready to hunt for some bargains and I am soooo happy to say I FOUND SOME!!
Take a look at these! I was thrilled to find this old wood ice cream bucket , an adorable chippy white clock and some dried hydrangeas!

Take a quick guess what I paid for all of these treasures.
Go ahead , I'll wait......................

TIME'S UP!!!
The grand total for all of these pieces was $5.00!!!!
I couldn't believe it either!
Here's the breakdown:
Bucket: $2.00
clock:$2.00
Drieds: $1.00
An interesting morning + a fun afternoon with great junk finds= a perfect birthday!
Hope your day was great too!

French Juice Bottles......

Hello Friends!!
These have got to be one of my most favorite finds this season.
While rummaging thru a pick-up truck bed full of old bottles in Maryland (yes I was all UP in it!)
I came across these beauties!

Mr. Pick-Up owner had no idea what they were when I asked.
Shocking.
A few moments before he had just told me a saga about what a big time bottle collector he was.
I listened politely all the while knowing I was gonna ask him if I could get in the truck bed and start looting the whole mess!

Anyway, I did a little research and was pleasantly surprised to find out what they were!!
YIPPEE!
Don' t you just love the shape?
AND the rusty metal lid?
AND the color!
AND the nubby texture glass???

I only have 5 left (after keeping a couple) and put them in my Etsy shop.
I hope I don't regret it!
I have never seen them before and well.....you know how that goes.
By the way, if any one of you saw me in the back of that pick- up truck.....
thank you for not posting any pictures.
You're the best!

SUNDAY PICKIN!

Actually I didn't get any of this today...Sunday.

Our plans for today's junkin trip was foiled!

The cursed starter in the truck didn't want to start this morning

thus leaving me to resort to showing you LAST SUNDAYS junk picks!

You won't care one ding dang bit I'm guessing!

So let's roll um......

Any guesses on the first one???C'mon ...you know, you know what it is.....

YEP! A SUPER DUPER CHIPPY DIPPY SHABBY CRUSTY OLE MIRROR!

I am loooovin the cracklie-ness!
Now check out this little sweetie...

Not really sure exactly what it is but my first guess would be to hold flower pots! Whaddya think?

I'm thinking p*r*e*c*i*o*u*s!!

oh and my little tulip is making her grand debut for 2011!

I need more pots!

Now this is the thing I love about junkin! Someone already took the time to change out this old lantern into a great light fixture...however....they did such a bad job that I'm afraid I'd burn down the neighborhood if I plugged it in. This little darlin will be going on the to-do list before she makes it to the A list!

Little tulip looks so happy to be here!

Okay...now do ya have any ideas at all what this is??? I'll give you a few minutes to think.....

here's some thinking music..

"da do dee la la la dooo deee fiii sooo laaaa da dee dumm deee dooo"

OKAY FOLKS TIME IS UP!

If you guessed a hog waterer or cow waterer...

You are CORRECT!!!

Now the question.....Why would I want this?
I guess the first reason was because it's rusty...farm rusty!
Plus, the second reason is purely sentimental. My Uncle Frank used to have a huge dairy farm and to say I loved going over there is an understatement. I loved the barn, the smells, the milk house, the corn crib, the barn cats and the cows! Each cow used to have one of these waterers in their stalls. You see when the cow pushes on that metal "pedal" that is what opens the pipe and water comes out. When you're a kid pushing on that pedal is a blast and well... I used to have a blast!

Times sure does fly. I can close my eyes and be right back there at that place. It sat at the end of a dirt road which I thought was totally cool and anytime I threatened to run away...that's where I was gonna go. My mom knew it to. I can also remember her telling me to grab a can of spagettios to take with me in case I get hungry!

I guess I needed that trip down memory lane. Today was kind of a pain with the whole truck issue and all but I am ending it sharing all this with you...PLUS I have made from scratch vanilla cupcakes in the oven as we speak, there is an amazing Aretha Franklin tribute being sung on the Grammy awards right now and the smell in the house is ka-razy good!
Time to go make the frosting!! :0)

P.S. FYI...spellcheck didn't recognize cracklie-ness as a word! ....go figure!

Feedsack Photo Shoot!

Hi!
You may remember a few posts back I teased you with a photo of
one of the items that I bought when I went to market in Atlanta.
Guess what arrived yesterday??
I was soooo beyond excited to get the box open because look what was inside........Yep! Ten of the most wonderful nubby old feed sacks directly from France via Atlanta!
I was a lucky duck that day I found these. I was actually looking for a floor that was supposed to be selling Cash & Carry antiques. That turned out to be a farce.

Instead I was fortunate enough to find the couple who had these AND I was their first customer of the day.

They had a stack of about 6 or 7 laying on top of a table when they invited me to go "behind the curtain" and see what was back there. My jaw hit the floor! No joke...it was AMAZING what they had and then I hear this....."Go ahead and pick out the ones you want and we'll ship them to you....you're lucky you're the first one to see them!" Oh my gosh did I have a BLAST! I was going through feed sack after feed sack wanting them ALL! In an effort to not blow my whole shop budget on just feed sacks, I decided on 10.
Here they are......

They are truly all in wonderful condition. I even loved them with the handmade repairs.

THIS one is my favorite. It's a neutral check that I have never seen before.

The pattern and texture are so beautiful.

Think of the pillows that could be made...

or simply used as table runners...

or just stack um.....

the details like this make me smile...

neutral stripes...

or red stripes are pure perfection....

stitched with love...

I am in heaven just looking at them.
I had plans to make so many things but now I don't know if I have the guts to cut them.
What would you do?
Cheers! :0)

Another Cubby Find!

Has this ever happened to you......You are searching for a particular something....a book, piece of furniture,a toy, whatever. Your search has lasted months~ years even until one day~out of the clear blue.....BANG!! There IT IS! Now it doesn't stop there.....after finding your long lost treasure after ALL this time......the very next week you find another one?
How does that happen?
I remember looking for a Debbie Macomber book "16 Lighthouse Road" to complete the Cedar Cove series I had. Couldn't start reading without this one because it was the first in the series. I looked high and low for this book at every thrift store, flea market, book sale, garage sale YOU NAME IT!
Why was this sooooo hard to find? It isn't like it was a long lost relic or something. I could have easily purchased it from ebay or Amazon but I think I was enjoying the challenge. Took me 14 months til one day at Goodwill there is was...and there continues to be a copy practically every time I go from that day on.It's been like that with cubbies lately too! Let's face it....Cubbies are cool (go back a few posts and you'll see what I mean). This one is a doozie! Just look at her...100 slots in old distressed black paint! I have been a lucky junker lately to gets my mitts on these. I had looked for YEARS for these and had no luck...now look...two in the last month!
Right place~ right time I s'pose! What ever it is ...yee haw!
The other cubby I had posted about recently sold within a week of putting it in my booth at the Sleepy Poet. That"s were I took this one today.
So they say things come it three's?
I'm already excited to see the next one!
(keeping my fingers crossed!!)
:0)

Crackly~ chippy~ glorious LETTERS!

Once and old postal cubby , this guy has countless potential...COOL potential!
Available in my booth at the SLEEPY POET!

Fall Afternoon.....

It was well deserved ~ the absolutely beautiful Fall day we had here today in NC.
The high was 71 degree and yes, as I type this I am wearing a SWEATSHIRT!!
YIPPEE!! I have been waiting like over 100 days to say that!
Mr. OTM had a great idea today. Since I am getting ready to participate in my first antique in quite awhile, he suggested that I practice my booth set up! He measured out my space for me in the side yard and lightly spray painted the outline so I could set up within the space.
All the stuff really inspired me so I decided to take some pics and let you get a sneak peek at some of the goodies that I am going to be taking to the show!
I got my hands on some REAL bittersweet this year and LOVED how it looked with everything
Picked up this old ice cream maker this morning! Don't you just love the color of the bucket?

Yep, I know what you're thinking~ it's exactly what I thought when I laid eyes on this door...

oh~my~goodness...

I actually fell under the charm of this old cadet cot and decided to plop down and lay there, right in the yard and look at the tree tops and think about all the other stuff I should be doing. The stack of old feather pillows was so comfy and the breeze could have literally drifted me off to sleep. I want to take my bed outside from now on and just pretend that there isn't anything out there that could ruin my fantasy~like mosquitos!

LOVE the old ticking fabric..

yet another door that is seriously too die for~not kidding~ I may not even sell it~ I am having separation anxiety over this one..

Okay...I need to figure out how I can have bittersweet grow here at my house 365 days a year...I never want to be without it...

YES...It's a flower cart! And yes I will show more pics and YES I am having trouble even thinking about selling it! This one is 911 serious! I can't bear the thought of letting it go. I have two weeks to think about it and then the show! Oh what to do???!! HELP! This is an antique emergency ~like my friend Joey would say ! I don't know what I am gonna do! I'll put like 1000.00 on it and see what happens! LOL!

This little cupboard is so simple yet it has this awesome handle! You gotta love it.
Well this ace photographer is pooped out and ready to hit the hay.
I really don't ever know what I am doing when I take pictures but I liked these today! It was all in the bittersweet...it made everything just POP as the pros would say!
Thanks for stopping by today! I hope you enjoyed your visit!
